Description: The Art Futures Program is offered through the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a way to connect art students with working, professional artists. Schools that are selected, receive an artist in residence for 30 hours, plus $800.00 of art supplies for the project that they will be working on and two field trips to the museum. At the end of the residency, student work will go on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for a month, and they are all invited to an award ceremony and luncheon.
Our project this year is working with textile artist Jessica Curtaz to learn the art of crochet, and use those skills to design images to represent the four characteristics of our school: Sisterhood, Spirituality, Scholastics, and Service. The designs will then be used to “crochet bomb” the Ditman Street fence beside school. Keep your eyes open this Spring for its arrival! Art 2 and Sewing 2 students are both involved in the project.
The art club meets once a month to explore art and craft ideas and projects, often with a seasonal or holiday theme. Students need not take art classes to be part of the art club, and need not come to every meeting to participate in the activities. Twice a year, the club participates in an art related service activity.
