Attendance
Attendance Policies & Procedures
Daily attendance and class participation are essential to the learning process at St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. Students should only miss school in the event of an illness or family emergency. The following comprehensive guidelines are based on the policies outlined in the 2026 - 2027 student handbook.

Reporting an Absence
-
Parents or guardians must call the 24-hour attendance line before or on the morning of the absence by 10:00 AM.
-
If the school is not notified by 10:00 AM, an automated call will be sent to the main phone number on file before 12:00 PM.
-
Students are never permitted to report themselves absent from school.
-
If no call is received, the student must present a note explaining her absence on the day she returns.
-
Failure to provide an attendance note within one week of the occurrence will result in 3 demerits.
Medical Notes & Extended Illness
-
A doctor's note is required whenever a student is absent due to a doctor or dentist appointment.
-
If an absence due to illness exceeds 3 consecutive days, a doctor's certificate is required upon the student's return.
-
Doctor notes must be submitted on the day the student returns and are not retroactive.
-
For extended absences due to hospitalization or serious illness, parents must inform the Attendance Office of the nature of the illness and estimated length of absence, and advise the Office of Academic Affairs to coordinate missed work.
Lateness Policy
-
Students arriving after 7:50 AM must enter through the main entrance on Torresdale Ave and obtain a late pass in the Attendance Office.
-
Any arrival after 7:50 AM is recorded as unexcused unless official documentation (such as a doctor's note) is submitted by the following day to excuse the delay.
-
1 demerit is issued for every unexcused lateness before 9:45 AM.
-
3 demerits are issued for every unexcused lateness after 9:45 AM (or after the start of 3rd period).
-
A detention is automatically assigned on the 3rd unexcused lateness and every 3rd unexcused lateness thereafter.
Early Dismissal Procedures
-
Routine appointments should be scheduled outside of school hours.
-
Parents must not call the school to request an early dismissal; doing so will result in demerits for procedure violations.
-
To request an early dismissal, the student must submit a written note containing her name, grade, dismissal date and time, reason, mode of transportation, and the designated adult transporting her to the Attendance Office before homeroom.
-
Students must be in school for at least 5 periods, or until 12:00 PM (whichever is later), to avoid being counted absent for the day.
-
Exceeding 5 early dismissals in a school year without submitting required documentation will result in the dismissals being counted as unexcused absences.
-
If a student feels ill, she must report to the nurse (or Attendance Office if the nurse is off duty). The nurse will contact the parent/guardian. Students are not permitted to contact a parent directly to be picked up for illness.
Truancy
-
A student is considered truant if she is absent for 4 consecutive days without communication or a note.
-
Truancy consequences include an immediate demerit, a detention, and suspended status.
-
Truant students must report to school with a parent/guardian for a reinstatement conference upon their return.
-
Truancy places a student on Disciplinary Probation.
Excused Absences & Special Statuses
-
College/Career Visits: Seniors are allowed one excused absence for a college visit, interview, or employment. The student must present a note outlining the request at least one day prior and provide proper verification upon return.
-
Bereavement: Students are permitted a maximum of 5 days of excused absence for the death of an immediate family member (parent or sibling). A one-day excused absence is permitted for the funeral of an extended family member.
Privileges & Consequences
-
Students who are absent or sent home early by the nurse may not participate in activities, sports practices, games, proms, dances, or trips on that day.
-
If a student leaves early (before the end of the 5th period) on the day of a prom, dance, or sporting event, she will not be permitted to attend.
-
Accumulating 10 unexcused absences or latenesses results in the loss of privileges to attend school dances, proms, and class trips.
-
Accumulating 21 unexcused absences and/or 22 unexcused times late requires mandatory attendance at the Behavior Modification Summer School program. Failure to attend this program may result in dismissal from St. Hubert.
