The World Language Department offers Spanish, French, Italian and Latin. In these times of international communication, commerce and diplomacy, the knowledge of a second language is an invaluable asset to any career and will enhance the student's chances of success in every sphere. The medical professions, allied health services, elementary and secondary education, foreign relations, trade, business careers, finances, Peace Corps, scientific research are only a few areas which capitalize on the knowledge of a second language. Minimum college requirements at most area colleges stipulate two years of one modern language. Many colleges request that students consider three or four years of one language rather than two years of two languages. Since acceptance into the language program is based on the academic record, standardized test scores and recommendation by the student's English teacher, pre-registration is necessary to check these items and interview teachers. Therefore, any freshman or sophomore who feels she is qualified to begin a world language should see the world language chairperson as soon as the rostering process begins. Remember, space is limited and when all of the available places are filled, admission will be closed.
